4-Ohm vs. 8-Ohm Speakers
A 4-ohm and an 8-ohm speaker can be built to identical quality. The difference is not better or worse — it is how much current they ask of the amplifier.
The core difference
A 4Ω speaker is a lower-impedance load, so it draws more current and pulls more power from a given amplifier. An 8Ω speaker draws less current and is an easier load. Both can sound excellent; the rating simply tells the amplifier how hard it will have to work.

Does 4Ω mean louder?
Not by itself. A 4Ω speaker often gets more power from the same amp, but how loud a speaker plays depends far more on its sensitivity than on its impedance. A high-sensitivity 8Ω speaker can easily be louder than a low-sensitivity 4Ω one.
Which should you use?
- Check what your amplifier is rated to drive. Most handle 8Ω easily and many handle 4Ω; fewer are safe below that.
